In-progress Paddington Queenslander renovation design — Brisbane character home planning and approval documentation.
An in-progress renovation of a traditional Paddington Queenslander, modernising the home for contemporary family living while protecting its character street frontage.
The brief
The owners want a brighter, better-connected home that suits modern family life, without losing the period character that makes their Paddington Queenslander special.
Planning & site constraints
Paddington's pre-1946 streets commonly sit within Brisbane's Traditional Building Character Overlay, where the original street-facing form is protected and demolition is tightly controlled — so changes are focused at the rear and underside rather than the facade.
Our design response
Our design retains and repairs the character frontage while reworking the rear and lower level for open-plan living, improved natural light and a stronger connection to the outdoors — a sympathetic Queenslander renovation and build-under approach.
Outcome
Currently in design, progressing towards planning and building approval.
