In-progress Woolloongabba Queenslander renovation design — Brisbane character home planning and approval documentation.
An in-progress character home renovation in Woolloongabba, updating a traditional Queenslander for modern living while respecting its heritage streetscape.
The brief
The owners are looking to modernise and open up their Woolloongabba Queenslander for everyday family living, while keeping its traditional character intact.
Planning & site constraints
Many of Woolloongabba's older streets fall within Brisbane's Traditional Building Character Overlay, which protects pre-1946 homes and controls demolition — concentrating change at the rear and under-house areas.
Our design response
The design retains the character frontage and reworks the rear and lower level to create light-filled, open-plan living with improved indoor-outdoor flow.
Outcome
Currently in design and moving toward the approval stage.
